MATRIX 2 tidbit and possible spoiler!
Hey folks, Harry here... below I have a iffy could be a spoiler if it's true rumor about an alleged fight scene in the 2nd film... put it in the salt container till we learn more, but I also had a phone conversation with a top level Warner spy that Lorenzo would probably love to get his hands on named, Agent Smith. Agent Smith is someone involved inside the world of the MATRIX. Agent Smith has read both screenplays as written by the Wachowski Brothers and Agent Smith is very very excited about the scripts, and said, "The 3rd script could very well be the best script I have ever read. They nailed it!" I'm going to continue to talk to Agent Smith and see if I can convert him over to the human cause and leak scripts and designs cause folks... Agent Smith, our spy, controls the MATRIX... that's all the clues I give Lorenzo... happy hunting Mr DiBonaventura! Meanwhile, here's M. Wilson and what Universal President Ron Meyer said today.... allegedly...
In a forum hosted by a class I have at UNC-Chapel Hill, we were visited by Universal President Ron Meyer who was talking about the industry. During the forum he was explaining about the type of things they couldn't do without computers and revealed a detail about the Matrix 2. He said his friend (Silver?) is a producer on the film and he was explaining a sequence where Neo (Keanu Reeves) is pitted in a fight against another 100 Neos. Perhaps the Agents have figured how to program a Neo agent?
- M. WilsonAnd then we got this tidbit in as well...
Hi, I recently interviewed Keanu Reeves for the Sweet November junket and he dropped some science about Matrix 2:
Hugo Weaving is returning
This time it's the story about Neo against the machines
In Matrix had one on one fights, here it's a lot of guys fighting each other.
Hope this do!
Regards
H.

Im sure we would all like to see 100 trinity clones fighting each other - possibly with mud or jam involved

Every little fact that turns up about these films makes me more and more eager to see them when they finally arrive. I'd be very surprised if they weren't totally brilliant.
-
101 Keanus = 101 bad actors! And still I have high hopes for these sequels :)
-
You're excited by every new fact that comes out about this movie? Including the casting? Come on, you must be joking...really? I'm sorry, but this is the WB we're dealing with, and all I feel is a sense of dread.
-
Good stuff...Hopefully the 100 Neo's kill Keanu and then it's over and they don't need to make a third one do they..? D'you know what I mean? Save some cash...
-
Who gives a monkey's ASS about Matrix 2, just watch Black Mask, and a few other sci-fi gun-fu movies.
-
Will the "Neo being pitted against 100 other Neos" scene take place in Neo's head, and if so, will it look like the scene where Malkovich meets hundreds of other Malkoviches? Could be cool!
-
This makes alot of sense.
its exactly the sort of senario they'd shove in the trailor, remember seeing the "guns, lots of guns" shot in the original where the banks of fire arms come rushing towards them and you were just "whoa......never seen that before!"
A shot of a big white room with a hundred neo's about to kick off is stylisticly very ~matrix~ with a similar "whoa" factor.
Lupe
(just a thought)

While I'm still pissed off about Jet's lack of presence in the sequels (replaced by Aaliyah?!? oh yeah, that makes tons of sense), I remain psyched to see them nonetheless. If only to see what quantum leaps of "whoa" effects they'll have integrated into the movies since the original. As for the plot, I think I'll keep away from reading too many spoilers so that I actually have a chance of being impressed by the final results. This 100 Neos stuff could backfire big-time; the original Matirx succeeded despite Mr. Canoe-head, not because of him - all that cinematic eye candy throughout the flick distracted the audience enough that they mommentarily forgot about Keanu's total lack of acting ability. Throw in 100+ of him on the screen simultaneously and that camouflage is lost -- word to the wise ..
-
...and if Hugo Weaving is returning, well, I'm even more stoked. I can't imagine the Matrix universe without his most excellent Agent Smith character. McFly<--

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LEAVE 'THE MATRIX' AS A STAND ALONE FILM. IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST FILMS OF THE LAST 10 YEARS. DONT FUCK IT UP BY MAKING ANOTHER. GEORGE LUCAS MESSED UP BY MAKING EPI AND NOW HE CONTINUES IT ON EPII AND III. THE STARWARS PREQUELS SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN MADE...DONT MAKE MARTIX 2!!!
-
Ron Meyer was an amazingly cool guy. He brought up the matrix thing because he was saying digital actors will never replace real ones, and he said the line "because, as you all know, there is only one keanu reeves!"
funny stuff -

All I'll Say Is That Agent Smith Controls The Matrix - DOH!
by mighty ostrich
Clap clap clap.... so this spy is somebody who works with computers used in/for the Matrix.
Shouldn't take him to long to get found out now will it!?

This film could seriously suck.
Don't get me wrong, aside from The Lord Of The Rings and SpiderMan this is the film I am most looking forward to.
It's just that I have the nagging feeling that there is no more story left to tell and the Brothers played all their cards too early.
By the end of the Matrix we know the world isn't real and Neo is already the ONE.
Did anyone ever used to watch Babylon 5 ?
Well by season 4 when they had defeated the Shadows but you knew there was still one and a half seasons to go, I just knew the rest of the series would suck ass....and I was right !
I'm getting the same sinking feeling about the Matrix sequels.
I just don't think there is enough story left to tell. -
It really pisses me off when people talk about the Wachowski's as though they were just any other film makers. If you have ever seen Bound, you would know better. After I saw that movie, I knew that I would want to see WHATEVER other movies the Wachowski's made. I had NO IDEA what the Matrix was about, but I was there opening night because I knew that these 2 guys were EXTRA ORDINARY film makers. The Matrix isn't just some fluke. These guys know what they are doing. You fanboys who assume Matrix 2 is going to suck are just pissed because George Lucas is skull fucking your childhood memories with Eps I-III. That doesn't mean that everyone will indelibly fuck their own stories up. These guys are in the Zone. Perhaps the same zone that Lucas was in 25 years ago.

they got it wrong.... it's actually going to be 100 Alex Winters begging Keanu to do Bill and Ted 3. When Keanu refuses, George Carlin shows up in his phone booth and then he takes them to 1988, and beats the shit outta both of them!! Aint it cool?
-
Yeah don't bash the sequels you pesky kids, bash the first one instead... it's just as shit..!

"Agent Smith???" What a bitch! It's true, there ARE a lot of people excited about the Matrix sequels, me included. Why the hell would this moron want to leak the premise, plot, and the scripts to AICN??? And, don't start with the "if you don't want to know, don't read it" bullshit. If the details get out about Matrix 2 & 3, there'll be no escaping the summaries and synopses everywhere. Look, I'm all for the occassional interview, casting choice, and even production shot (a la StarWars.com), but, for God's sake, don't give us the damn movie before we go to see it. Please!

Sigh. If Jada P.S. is in this why can't Blossom be? And they can just throw in Joey Lawrence whose 'Whoa' will put Neo to shame. Har Har.
But seriously, I can't forget the way I felt when I saw 'The Matrix' for the first time and that feeling alone is enough to make me watch the second. It's just like bashing 'SW2-The Potato's Shadow' - it doesn't matter what we say cause we'll all be waiting in line for it.
-
Just an FYI, Jet Li isn't doing the Matrix sequels because the contract they offered him was lousy. A paltry $3-4 Mil for 2 movies. No chance! He's making $13 Mil for 1 film! The Wachowski Bros. got screwed by the deal with Keanu and Joel Silver taking a hefty cut off the back end. Talks (last I heard) were that Michelle Yeoh (of CTHD)was a possibility to take the place of Jet. I still have heard nothing on what kind of role that would be. Sounds cool though! And the 'Dark City' comment? Absolute horseshit. It was a decent movie, but not anywhere close to the level of ingenious story-telling of the Matrix. All praise Larry and Andy !
-
So that's what happened. What's Ca-noe raking in, 20 mil? Does this disparity strike anyone as more than a little off .. no wonder Jet hit the road. Re: Michelle Yeoh, I read an interview somewhere that stated that as much of a fan of the W bros. & Matrix universe that she is (and apparently she really is), she's too involved with commitments for her own film company at the moment to take part. That's a serious shame, although some good news - rumour has it Francoise Yip (the uberbabe in 'Rumble in the Bronx') is pencilled in for a role in Matrix 2. Or maybe I just dreamt that.

i am so freakin' tired of this debate--the immature gun/kung fu nut fanboys versus the "delusions of persecution"/"has to love the underrated film more" pretentious dickholes. The Matrix is at times overly derivative of a variety of science fiction/fantasy sources--dark city has some major problems with it's third act. they are flawed films and fundamentally different films--and I enjoy them both and look forward to further work by alex proyas and guy-who-wrote-dark-city-who's-name-escapes-me as well as the matrix sequels.
-
Yes, I want to start a fight here, although I doubt I have that much influence. But, really, Dark City is by far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far better film for many reasons. reasons. First off, it was able to explore many great geek themes (comic books, sci-fi, film noir, etc.) as well as raise serious questions about human nature, and why we are who we are. Yes, sure, The Matrix is also a great movie too, and I will camp out to get tickets for the sequel, and I hope that they get the whole trilogy made and all this strike bullshit doesn't get in their way, but Dark City is more than just cool, which is all I really felt the Matrix was. Also, Jennifer Connelly is so much hotter than Carrie Anne Moss, Rufus Sewell is just much more talented than Keanu Reeves (although he pleasantly suprised me in The Gift, I'll give the man that much), the strangers were much creepier and all around more effective as badguys than than the agents, Alex Proyas is levels above the W. Brothers as a visual stylist, and the ability shape reality to your will would be a lot better than the ability to shape a computer program to your will. Really, that is what they need to explore in the sequels to the Matrix. Sure, neo is invincible in the Matrix, but in the real world him and everyone else are sitting ducks. Oh, and yes my grammar and spelling suck. Sue me.
-
the matrix and the phantom menace and dark city all sucked. i cant wait to see sequels from all of them. or how about a movie with all of them, jar jar returns to the matrix and stops time just long enough to hose keanu reeves in the poo doo.

To anyone who doesnt already know about this major fact, but as most of us 'real fans' know, The Matrix was originally a trilogy concept, not as a single movie with sequels being made because of it's success... it was planned as an epic from the beginning.
And it is because of this that the sequels will not ruin the first one.
And you guys also gotta remember that Matrix is pure comic books, the story, characters, plot, are all something right out of the comics, so dont be expecting Academy Award worthy acting jobs, the movie is fun and has great effects, its a visual movie, not something you need to look so deeply into!
And on 1 last note, Lucas is a stuck up asshole who has the largest fan base of anything in existence, and does he care? NO! He is it it for the money now, so he dont care what shit he dishes out in the film!
The Wachowski Bros. on the other hand are great guys, they making a movie that they know people will love, so i would expect nothing less than a great trilogy! -
The wachowski's have said that the original matrix was like an explanation movie to explain how somehow could be a superhero and have special powers. Neo has these powers. The Matrix 2, unlike the first, is where he knows he has these powers, and he gets to use them to their fullest extent...(sigh) so much potential for coolness
-
Am I missing something?I saw the Matrix,I thought it was ok,although probably much more surreal in theater(I saw it on video). But what is this everytime a filmmaker comes along and gets your juices going, suddenly he/she is the second coming?I wish I could feel the same way because I envy the thrill you Wachowski worshippers get out of their past and upcoming projects.I used to feel the same way when I was exposed to the world of 80's HK cinema.I understand all the criticizms aimed at HK films but that doesn't deter my enjoyment,so I wouldn't expect other people's disinterest in Wachowski product to alter your enthusiasm either.Oh,I guess I'm just hopelessly jaded.......

One more reason Dark City is better than the Matrix....
by lil' bastard
You get to see Melissa George (aka Angel - Aussies and Poms will know what I mean) topless.
Grrrroooowwwllll.
Shane deserved to die from septicimea too, regardless of what anyone thinks (another blatant Home & Away reference).
Cya Don, we'll miss ya. -
its true, its true. . .

Seen the whole trailer on "The Big Breakfast" this morning. Apart from wasting precious screen time telling us what Tim's already diercted (do you really want to boast about Batman?)it looks really good. Let's hope the next one shows more without giving away the entire plot.

Ok, just so every one can peg me on their fan-o-meter I loved the Matrix, despite Canoe, I was disappointed with parts of tpm, but still look forward to ep2, (damn that JarJar)The whole premise of the matrix, as has already been stated was to make a comic book universe into a live action movie, you can't expect too much from that(reality: They broadcast a signal to hack the Matrix ie: no physical connection, but they still need a hardline to get in/out? how's that again?) The rules for a three part story state 1. That the first be capeable of standing alone, incase it's a flop, but leave openings for follow up. 2. In the second ep, the goodguys get their asses handed to them( somebody's gonna die!) and Neo will be confromnted with his own falibility(not Canoe, NEO). Next, somone pointed out that the humans are totally vulnerable in the real world, Neo included so there's lots of potential. They're gonna have to physically free all those people sooner or later. Also, the multiple opponents is an obvious choice! That's what computers do, process faster than humans, I expected a new type of agent, and a couple of multi-combatant scenes, that would challenge Neos ability to control things, since he can only focus on so many targets at once. Just thought that needed to be said.
-
FUCK YOU!
To all those people who said that the matrix plot is lame. Fuck you, I doubt even of you shit heads could come up with anything better. Shit look at the stupid fucking moron who made the DND movie, guess what he's a fan boy too. I'll bet you a grand he's giving Hand Jobs for crack now, shit that movie was worse then the super Mario movie, and thats saying something.
See your only jealous that you can't create anything worth while so you spend all of your time slamming the people who can.
I'll tell you one thing when all the Matrix Sequels are out and you see how much they kick ass all you "Nay" sayers will be just jumping on the Band wagon. I'll tell you one reason why the Wachowski brothers are better then lucas. No Fucking Triology of Matrix Prequels.
Shit man, they did just what the general movie public wanted. They took a story and made there characters do all these amazing things, and gave a reasons all though far fetched you still find yourself believing. And thats the real trick. Now I love the original Star Wars Trilogy, but I never really gave a fuck or believed that there was a galaxy far away.
Bloody Wankers!

All of you people saying "Sellout" are just living in your jaded little Starbucks drinking world.
They wroye the first one as stand-alone-ish as they could so if it flopped, no biggie, but if it did well, then they could finish tellingtheir story.
I like the idea of having films epic enough to need multiple films, especially if they are headed by the same people. And I REALLY like it when they are filmed back-to-back so there is no 2 1/2 year turnaround.
Deal w/ sequels, and don't become a critic of EVERYTHING... -
The Matrix in terms of story doesn't know a godamn thing about narrative.
-
The Matrix and TPM were both flawed but entertaining movies, IMHO. I'm looking forward to both sequels, but Episode II will still destroy all competition at the box office. No one really gives a shit about Jar Jar destroying your childhood memories anymore, do they?
-
A good friend of mine who does shit work at WB. Is assigned it for the Matrix sequels. He said that a second unit director has been getting some stock film for the movie. And he heard about one scene, true or not you'll find out in a years time.
Supposedly there's a huge fight with Neo and Trinity on a bunch of roof tops. They'll be Tag teaming, which should look very cool. Another thing that he heard on the grape vine is that, the special effects house that did the first Matrix, and created bullet time, have come up with something new that will blow your mind. (Although this too will probably be used in Tampax commercials. -
...but they were both brilliant! Why compete?
-
With a few exceptions, everybody here hates everything. I'm sure if Harry posted a story about Dances With Wolves, there would be people here posting things like, "That was the worst movie ever made! I hate it! And I hate all the fans who like it!" Guess I'm just one of those weird people who loves film in general and looks for the good rather than the bad. I loved The Matrix, Episode I, and Dark City. All very entertaining movies.

WHAT???? How could anyone like (fill in the blank) AND (fill in the other blank)!!! It is carved in stone, right there in the mountainside below the HOLLYWOOD sign, that no one is allowed more than ONE favorite movie... and that every other movie ever made sucks granny's colostomy hole!!! Jar Jar.. not racist...just supremely ignorant of Lucas
by johnnynewgear
Jar Jar was the personification of old racist views towards African Americans... he is protrayed in the same way as whites percieved sterotypical blacks in the times of racial injustice in America .. he exemplifies the racist view that whites held towards non-whites ... Sleazy G is right on the money and I whole-heartly share his views concerning the characters in EP1...... nuff said
