TIME BANDITS 2 not dead'

Published at: Feb. 18, 2001, 12:57 p.m. CST

Hey folks, Harry here with an update on TIME BANDITS 2. 3 weeks ago, or loyal handsome debonair supergenius... Reno.... reviewed a draft of the TIME BANDITS 2 script (CLICK HERE TO READ THE REVIEW) and stated that it looked like it was never going to happen.... Well... while it looks like Gilliam isn't directing.... well, read for yourself....

Not sure if u already know of this but;

On a recent european flight was reading the inflight magazine called "High life". To cut a long story short there was an interview with the mighty Terry Gilliam talking about some of his upcoming projects, one of which he says is a sequel to Time bandits, in his own words he's just gonna be babysitting the project as executive producer, but the story is already written!!!

Like i say dunno whether you've run this story before now, but hope its of use to you?!

Yeah, those in-flight magazines are well known for their scoops.

Getting scooped by an in-flight magazine? Jesus Harry!

In flight magazines are usually a wealthy source of old news. I wouldn't be surprised if some of it was true.

    Old news indeed.

Buy "Dark Knights and Holy Fools", the book on Gilliam's career that came out about two years ago. He pretty much says everything this "scoop" had to offer.

Time Bandits was the first movie my parents let me see on my own at the flicks - consequently it holds a special place in my heart for purely nostagia reasons. I hope they don't screw this up. Some films don't need a sequel - remember Highlander 2? I didn't just want my money back, I wanted my evening back!

    Out of date

    by Brendon

That interview is severely out of date. Severely. TB2 is dead, certainly as it stood. TG is concentrating on Good Omens - and finding it a little tricky to adapt, allegedly. Brazil screens for one week at the UPP Cinema, Oxford, in March. Be there, UK people...

    Jolly Good!

    by twonkenn

Have faith fellow Python's...So long as Terry Gilliam is on-board it won't suck.

    Get a grip fellas

    by Seuss

I never saw Time Bandits "as a kid". I overlooked it when it was released, but based on all the hype here at talk-back, I found a copy and watched it this weekend. Friends, it sucked. You love this film solely because as children you didn't know any better. It is POORLY directed. I mean the direction in this movie is pitiful, and I like Terry Gilliam. The effects, the story, everthing is just 3rd rate. My wife, who did see it a million times as a kid, remembered a great, fun movie, but was tortured by the sheer lack of movie making skill this time around. Get a grip guys. This is not the great film you remember, that is why Gilliam is not anxious to be terribly involved. He has moved on to making better movies.

    by Horseflesh

Give it a break man, it's not Shakespeare but it's not a bad film either. Don't take such a stuffy look at it! Watch it as a kid. I have the DVD and still love this film. Put yer big top hat back on and have fun with it!

    Nice to hear

    by gingeracrockford

I suppose they'd have to get mostly new dwarves in, and a new Supreme Being to replace Ralph Richardson (I suggest Nigel Hawthorne) but damn that's cool. I'd welcome a return from David Warner as the Evil Genius (despite his supposed death in the 1st film)

    Oh and..

    by gingeracrockford

get Peter O'Toole to play Julius Caesar and perhaps Brian Blessed to play the pirate captain.

    Suess - YOU SUCK!

    by twonkenn

Get a grip man. It was and still is a great movie. It's fantasy. I don't think Gilliam went into the project the first time looking for an Oscar (which by the way is a scam operation, a social club popularity contest). I and most people can say that I've enjoyed everything our boy Terry has been involved with. SOMEBODY GET ME A HOLY HAND GRENADE SO WE CAN WIPE THIS HOLIER THAN THOU ASSHOLE OFF THE PLANET.
