EXCLUSIVE! - So, about that THEY LIVE sequel? We asked Matt Reeves about it.

Recently, director John Carpenter did an interview with Den of Geek about the new HALLOWEEN film and in the course of that conversation it came up that Matt Reeves (WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES) was at one time working on a remake of THEY LIVE called RESISTANCE.

Well... the internet being what it is, that news spread pretty far and wide.

Being that I and a lot of the AICN bullpen are hardcore Carpenter fans, we definitely wanted to know more. As we were talking about the possibilities of that project, Precious Roy joked, "you and Reeves share a first name doesn't that mean you share a psychic link or something?"

We laughed. A good time was had by all ...but then the strangest thing just happened, I received a mysterious communication from none other than Matt Reeves, himself!

Here is what he had to say to AICN about his involvement with a remake of THEY LIVE:

RESISTANCE is not a sequel to THEY LIVE, it is a new adaptation of ‘Eight O’Clock in the Morning’ by Ray Nelson which THEY LIVE was also based on. The tone and story of mine was totally different from John Carpenter’s film... Kind of a psychological horror film, very POV driven... Like the 70s paranoia films of Alan Pakula (THE PARALLAX VIEW)... I do think it is still incredible timely. I really hope to make it one day. And on a side note, I am a HUGE fan of John Carpenter and his films.”

So, there you have it. I’ve tried to use that link for information on THE BATMAN but so far. (John) Nada.

Anyway, Reeves has shown himself to be a filmmaker who can work magic with an unexpected adaptation. So, I sincerely hope we get to see RESISTANCE one day.

What do you guys think? Sad this isn't happening? Relieved? Let us know!
