“Praise Satan!” Big Eyes Summoned a Script to CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA

Morning, geeks!

So I was having just another typical Friday night for me last week. Chilling in my secret ceremony room, surrounded by black candles. Doing like, you know, your average woman stuff. Munching on an apple from an ancient tree, mindlessly drawing up a pentagram on the floor to prepare for the summoning. Though back in my young weeaboo days, I pretended it was an alchemy circle like in FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST! Anyways, something totes weird happened, before I could even BEGIN an incantation: some asshole’s black cat (not mine!) came out of nowhere! It jumped right into the middle of the circle, burst into blue and black flames, and then reformed into...a book bound with human skin.

At first, it was hot to the touch. Had to wait a minute before I was able to open it. Inside...was the script to the first episode of the CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA. I have no idea if this thing is real or whose cat that was that delivered it to me, but I’m pretty excited about it.

I fondly recall watching SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH on ABC back in the day on their TGIF block. It was one of those comforting kind of sitcoms that showed its 90s while witches were still a fad. After the 2000s rolled around, zombies and sparkly vampires began to take over as the supernatural cool thing, but it’s been over 20 years (Jesus, really? STTW came out in 1996. Yep.) It’s about damn time for witches to be the thing again!! STIFF AS A BOARD, LIGHT AS FEATHER.

I can easily say that I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode of CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA. It was spooky, violent, and overall fun! Satan’s name was praised multiple times, which is probably the biggest signal that this isn’t Disney ABC’s Sabrina. In fact, it’s WB’s. WB loves Satan, apparently. It was definitely written by a geek for geeks, you could just tell that real love went into this script. I may have read Salem’s parts in Nick Bakay’s voice.

The “changes” I liked compared to the old TV show:

  • Sabrina has a cousin she lives with, so she’s not alone on her rebellious magical adventures when undermining the authority of her aunts.

  • Sabrina has a transgender friend whose identity isn’t jammed down our throats, portraying what actual progress is like. When you treat people like they’re -gasp- normal.

  • VIOLENCE! Will there be gore to go along with it? I hope so! It was implied in the script, but it is to be seen what they went with in the filming!

Though, I should mention this version of SABRINA is based off of the graphic novels CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, which came out in 2014.

Anyways, I don’t want to say too much else about it.  This I actually don’t want to spoil for anyone. Have I mentioned that I am utterly thrilled that it’s October and I love Halloween? CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA is to be released on Netflix October 26th, giving us a few days to binge the first season right before, or on Halloween!

By the way, dear readers. Keep a lookout for the new Halloween animation I’m working on for the site!
