Karl Urban wants to introduce you to THE BOYS!

Karl Urban has to be considered geek royalty as this point. He played a prominent role in Peter Jackson's beloved LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. He was one of the few universally loved aspects of the Abrams-rebooted STAR TREK film series as "Bones" McCoy, and he played the titular role of classic comic book character JUDGE DREDD in the modern sci-fi cult classic DREDD.

Those three roles alone should be enough to claim the fandom of just about any geek but Urban won't be content until he seemingly gives everyone a reason to dig his work.

His latest attempt to capture even more love from the geeky circles is the new Amazon Prime series THE BOYS, adapted from the popular comic series.

Initially, published by DC/Wildstorm before being dropped for controversial content.  The book was then picked up by Dynamite entertainment and became of one of their signature titles.

THE BOYS tells the story of Billy Butcher and his small team of covert operatives who are tasked with keeping superheroes, who in this world have more in common with the Kardashians than they do with the Superfriends, in line. They do this through surveillance, strong-arming, black mail, and if need be violence. The costumed characters of this world are amoral and dangerous, so The Boys often have their hands full.

It's like THE WIRE but with capes and REALLY VIOLENT. It's at times thoughtful and other times, it's crass and immature ...but it's always entertaining.

THE BOYS is the creation of writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson. This is not Ennis' first foray into television as his other incredibly successful comic book, PREACHER has had three seasons air on AMC.

Speaking of that show, the producers of PREACHER, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (SUPERBAD) are also behind bringing THE BOYS to life on Amazon Prime.

While there has not been an official air date for THE BOYS announced outside of simply 2019. We also haven’t really seen any images from the show yet.

That is until today…

Karl Urban took to his Instagram today to release the first promotional image from the upcoming series and frankly, as a fan of the comic book, it's a doozy: A re-creation of the cover of the first issue of the series. Check it out:

And here is the original cover for comparison:

I love what I'm seeing so far from this and can't wait until this drops on Amazon Prime next year.
