Afternoon, geeks!
Apparently, there was some upset when a remake of BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA was announced back in 2015, but that turned out to be inaccurate. Instead, we are getting a sequel Collider found! BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA was probably one of the most bizarre things I can recall from my childhood, along with that scene in STARMAN where an “alien baby” grows into a full man right before a woman’s eyes--both films are products of the mind of John Carpenter. Starring in this sequel is Dwayne Johnson!
Dany Garcia, who is co-CEO of Seven Bucks Production had this to say about it:
“There’s a lot of things going on with [Big Trouble in Little China]. We are in the process of developing that, and let me tell you, the idea is not to actually remake Big Trouble in Little China. You can’t remake a classic like that, so what we’re planning to do is we’re going to continue the story. We’re going to continue the universe of Big Trouble in Little China. Everything that happened in the original exists and is standalone and I think there’s only one person that could ever play Jack Burton, so Dwayne would never try and play that character. So we are just having a lot of fun. We’re actually in a really great space with the story that we’ve cracked. But yeah, no remake. It is a continuation, and we are deep into development on that as well, and I think you’ll start hearing some things about that probably soon.”
Is this a sequel we asked for? No. Could it be the sequel we never knew we needed, though? I say maybe! The film is very much in pre-production and we have no idea if Kurt Russell. will reprise his role, or even if John Carpenter is involved! We’ll keep you guys posted as this cool story develops!
