Gilgun, Keegan and Molloy to star in "Brassic"

 Gilgun, Keegan and Molony

Hey, folks! Deadline Hollywood brought some casting news from across the pond: Joseph Gilgun, Michelle Keegan, and Damien Molony are set to star in "Brassic", a new comedy co-created by Gilgun and Danny Brocklehurst (SAFE).

For those who don't know Joseph Gilgun, he's a favorite of mine, and this is a perfect vehicle for him. He'll be playing Vinnie, a bipolar man who's best friend is leaving town to be with his girlfriend. Said Gilgun:

"I’m truly humbled by the opportunity. We’ve got an amazing team of creators and watching it all take form has been very moving. Bipolar is a big part of my life. We want to show that you can have mental health issues and in some cases live a productive, exciting life, full of adventure. Our writer Danny Brocklehurst and my friend David Quayle have been invaluable in taking this journey with me. Embrace who you are, decide what to be and go be it."

Although Gilgun is known in England as Woody in THIS IS ENGLAND and its television sequels, he's probably better known in the U.S. for playing the dodgy vampire Cassidy in "Preacher" on AMC:

Damien Molony plays Dylan, Vinne's best mate, facing the choice between losing his closest friends or his incredible girlfriend His most recent work has been "Ripper Street", but he's probably better known for playing the vampire Hal Yorke in the original U.K. version of "Being Human":

Michelle Keegan will be great as Erin, the girlfriend who wants her boyfriend to stop focusing on his mates and start focusing on starting a family. Keegan got her start in 2008 on "Coronation Street", a Salford kitchen-sink drama (incidentally, so did Gilgun as a kid!), where she played Tina MacIntyre, a sweet-but-salty teenager who became a popular fixture on the show until she was written off in 2014. She went on to do three seasons of "Our Girl", which focuses on women serving on the front lines in the British military. Glamorous whilst being tough and Northern (she's an actual Mancunion, from Stockport), Keegan and Gilgun are likely to clash in wonderful ways, Looking forward to seeing this get made.

"Brassic" doesn't have a release date yet, but we'll keep an eye out on this one.
