‘Does He Have A Gun??’ Herc Endorses The First New BETTER CALL SAUL In More Than A Year!!

I am – Hercules!!

Better Call Saul 4.1 FAQ

What’s it called?
“Smoke.”

Who’s responsible?
Teleplay is credited to series showrunner Peter Gould. I believe this is the first season premiere script not credited to Vince Gilligan, who’s also not credited on the teleplays for 4.2 or 4.3 either.

What says AMC about the fourth season?
“Chuck’s death catalyzes Jimmy McGill’s transformation into ‘Saul Goodman.’ In the wake of his loss, Jimmy takes steps into the criminal world that will put his future as a lawyer – and his relationship with Kim – in jeopardy. Chuck’s death deeply affects former colleagues Howard and Kim as well, putting the two of them once again on opposite sides of a battle sparked by the Brothers McGill. Meanwhile, Mike Ehrmantraut takes a more active role as Madrigal Electromotive’s newest (and most thorough) security consultant. It’s a volatile time to be in Gus Fring’s employ, as Hector’s collapse sends shock waves throughout the Albuquerque underworld and throws the cartel into chaos — tearing apart both Gus and Nacho’s well-laid plans. While Gus changes course, Nacho finds himself in the crosshairs of deadly forces.”

What says AMC about 4.1?
“Jimmy struggles to cope with Chuck’s tragic death. Mike ponders his role at Madrigal. Howard makes a startling confession.”

Is it any good?
Yes! That clip with “Gene” up there is probably the best thing about the episode. Better stuff is coming in 4.2 and 4.3.

So the episode begins with a visit to an Omaha Cinnebon?
Yes. It picks up minutes after the last time we saw “Gene,” who lies unconscious on the floor following his encounter with Omaha law enforcement. It turns out that was just the beginning of Gene’s very stressful day.

How does the color part start?
Jimmy begins his morning by circling ads, but is distracted by his cell phone.

Is Jimmy going permanently by Saul Goodman now?
No. I don’t recall the proper nouns “Saul” or “Goodman” are mentioned in this year’s first three episodes.

What’s doing with Kim Wexler?
Still plenty banged up.

What’s doing with Gus Fring?
He fears what chaos brings.

What’s doing with Nacho Varga?
He has a meeting with criminals.

Any sign of Huell?
Not this week.

A hint with regard to Howard’s “startling confession?
“It had nothing to do with the bar hearing,” insists Howard. There’s some great stuff with Kim and Howard coming up.

The big news?
Jimmy is not himself. He’s not Saul either.

What else is AMC not telling us?
Ed Begley Jr. is back! So is Kerry Condon! Dennis Boutsikaris is back as Rick Schweikart!

What’s great?
The prologue. Chuck’s backyard. Mike’s new job. “Does he have a gun?” “I guess that’s your cross to bear.”

What’s not so great?
No Lydia Quayle until next week.

How does it end, spoiler boy?
“I’m going to make some coffee. Anybody want some?”

9 p.m. Monday. AMC.
