I had the pleasure of attending a screening of "Mission Impossible: Fallout" on Monday here deep in the heart of Texas. I have been so busy posting daily news that it was difficult to find the time to discuss the film. Well, folks, the film was insanely intense! The stunts were breathtaking, and the villains were genuinely ruthless with a message that is profoundly disturbing. I worry about Tom Cruises sanity as the feats were death-defyingly intense, Cruise's dedication to his craft is impressive, to say the least. The cinematography was so incredibly masterfully handled, at multiple points in the film I was nervously squirming in my seat, and at one point I actually felt vertigo kick in! Director Christopher McQuarrie deserves a real pat on the back for his work wrangling up a pure visual spectacle.
Cruise's performance was exactly what I expected, perfect. Simon Peggs character gets more time in this than any of the prior films and is as witty as ever. Ving Rhames performance was genuinely touching. Sean Harris performance as the villainous Soloman Lane was appropriately disturbing and made my skin crawl. Soloman was sociopathically terrifying. The film was overall a thrilling edge of your seat roller coaster ride!
The film is precisely what a Mission Impossible film is supposed to be. I left extremely happy with the film and only had one single complaint, and it's a small one.
At the very beginning of the film, their mission is failed due to a case of plutonium with enough power to make three nukes being lost to the evil doers. My complaint has nothing to do with the decision that Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) makes. It just seemed kinda silly that Peggs character would run to check on Luther and Hunt, without the nuclear case in hand. That's it my one tiny complaint. Other than that the film was a breathtaking action film, Cruise deserves praise for his gigantic courage and talent. I mean the stunts were fucking epic, he deserves a gold star, and every dollar they paid him. He actually really flew the helicopter, and the scene of him flying it is a fracking nail-biter! When he jumps out of the plane with actor Henry Cavill's character it is gorgeously terrifying! Cavill is exceptional in the film. Rebecca Ferguson's performance as the returning Ilsa Faust is physically impressive, and her fight scenes are stunning.
If you love prior Mission Impossibles, this one is gonna knock your socks off! So flock to the theaters and get ready for one of the most visually intense action films I have ever seen! Tried to make this as spoiler free as possible.
