SDCC Animated Show Previews: VENTURE BROS, YOUNG JUSTICE, INFINITY TRAIN, DUCKTALES

Happy Monday, geeks!

SDCC was pretty unrelenting, and we at AICN worked hard to bring you the coolest info as fast as possible! By the end of it all, we were pretty dead. I was hospitalized, Wheels shot himself in the head SHAZAM style, Precious Roy’s sock came unraveled, and Dannie went on a rampage for free speech, it was a whole thing.

But now, I have a whole minute to talk about cool animation! STEVEN UNIVERSE THE MOVIE and INVADER ZIM: ENTER THE FLORPUS were teased. We got a whole trailer on DISENCHANTMENT. More DC Animated Movies are happening. BIG HERO 6 has a new season coming. This only scratches the surface of the animation madness that happened inbetwixt all of the major movie updates! So let’s look at what we missed!

YOUNG JUSTICE Season 3

They’ve sure been taking their sweet time with getting these out. I still remember back in I think 2010 or 2011 when YOUNG JUSTICE was first introduced, and Conan O Brien had Bruce Timm draw him as a DC hero, The Flaming C. For a gag on Conan’s show, they took footage from YOUNG JUSTICE and placed The Flaming C where Superman was during a time where Superman was being pretty awkward with Superboy. You can check out the clip here. That still of The Flaming C may have been a computer wallpaper of mine for a minute back in the day. Season 2 ended in 2013, season 3 has been a long time coming. Coming soon.

The rest of DUCKTALES Season 1

While the new DUCKTALES doesn’t feel exactly like the original, it definitely has its own charm. I like the fact that they adapted the art design from old SCROOGE MCDUCK comics. There have been some changes with the characters’ personality, like Mrs. Beakley and Webby, but I think they’re for the better. Hewey, Dewey, and Louie don’t sound like Donald Duck, which is kind of a relief. The new episodes are still airing.

VENTURE BROS Season 7 Trailer

You guys KNOW I am pumped for this one. I have throwing some rocks at creatorJackson Publick’s window while I stand out there holding a boombox blaring David Bowie over my head. We’ll see what becomes of that. Anyways, I’m pretty certain that’s supposed to be Carl Sagan in this trailer, and I CANNOT WAIT to see him in the VENTURE BROS, the astronomy geek in me is aflame! Everything about a new VENTURE BROS season is awesome! We’ll see this August 5th of this year.

THE DRAGON PRINCE

So Netflix gave a show to the head writer and director of AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER. I am elated to see more from Aaron Ehasz. This trailer seems to be lacking some frames, and I worry that this will be annoying when I’m actually watching the show, but I’m willing to give it a chance. The Dragon Prince tells the story of "two human princes who forge an unlikely bond with the elfin assassin sent to kill them, embarking on an epic quest to bring peace to their warring lands." In development, no release date yet.

INFINITY TRAIN

I have been waiting for this show since early last year when they dropped a Cartoon Network Mini, piloting the show, and it looks amazing! INFINITY TRAIN is created by Owen Dennis, who also brought us REGULAR SHOW. There is so much intrigue with so little info that we have been given, I really want to know where INFINITY TRAIN is going and have my questions answered. The show is about a girl named Tulip who finds herself trapped on a train of infinite magic cars, with a mysterious glowing number on her hand. You can check out the pilot here. The new episodes will look a bit different from the pilot, they changed Tulip’s design a bit to make her easier to animate. Coming in 2019.

I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see any of the TANGLED animated series at SDCC, however a new song was released by Disney Animation News late last night.

In this scene apparnetly Rapunzel and her friend Cassandra were transformed into birds. This song kind of obnoxious, but I find the animation fo the show extremely hypnotic, and the art beautiful. A rather interesting story has unfolded in season one, though there is a lot of garbage filler in the middle. It’s a guilty pleasure kind of show of mine.

BOJACK HORSEMAN didn’t seem to get any spotlight at SDCC this year, but we will be seeing the fifth season soon on Netflix September 14th.

‘Til Next time!
