Today the folks at the Hollywood reporter broke the hellaciously cool news that actor Robert De Niro is in negotiations to join Joaquin Phoenix in the new stand-alone Joker film. I am currently praying to the movie gods that this deal is sealed! If De Niro is cast, he will be playing the role of a talk show host that has a significant role in the Jokers origin story.
This project will be the first time De Niro has even been mentioned as having the slightest interest in stepping into the wild world of comics. Perhaps the fact that Scorsese is somewhat involved got Roberts attention. De Niro is a cinematic titan, having been in well over 100 films and television projects, he is also an Academy Award winner for "Raging Bull," and "The Godfather part 2." De Niro has had 55 wins and 97 nominations for various rewards.
De Niro is a living legend, a talent that has graced the silver screen since 1965 and I would kill to see him in the "JOKER" film! I love him in just about everything, and there is particularly a soft spot for the Brian De Palma's 1968 film "Greetings" I know a lot of people hate that film but I adore it, and De Niro's performance is unforgettable.
