The Man Who Is Trying To Kill Gilliam's Passion Project

¡Buenos días! Mad Dashiell here and thanks for joining me yet again for the roughly 20th installment of THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE.

Terry Gilliam is no stranger to disasters and facing technical difficulties when filmmaking. Even in his early days working on MONTY PYTHON'S THE MEANING OF LIFE, all his Python mates were giving him a hard time for using up too much of the films budget for The Crimson Permanent Assurance short. Soon after he was known for the number one director to go over budget by the time he was filming BRAZIL. Well, he showed us that persistence pays off but the ongoing curse of Cervantes may not.

Partners Mariela Busuievsky and Gerardo Herrero are two producers that have tried to help bring the production of Gilliam's long-awaited vision to fruition. Gilliam’s producer Busuievsky thinks Branco is exaggerating his court victory. Paulo Branco, an ex-producer, has been fighting Gilliam’s team for the film rights for months already. Branco claims Gilliam's team lost the rights to the film back in their court battle. The tiresome plot thickens as Busuievsky has spoken to the Spanish press clarifying his views on what is going on.

According to Busuievsky, when speaking with El Español, Gilliam did not meet all the specifications in regards to his contract he had with Paulo Branco.

-Without mutilating the translation, this will be heavily paraphrased and thanks again to the staff of El Español and theplaylist.net for bringing this to our attention.

A misunderstanding comes from a known fact that Paulo Branco is one known to overstate his victories. Not one single frame of film was shot under the contract Gilliam had with Branco, the ex-producer does not have a claim to the finished work. However, Gilliam did a bad job of ending the contract he had with Branco. There will still be a financial settlement between the two parties that still needs to be made. The ex-producer has been using this to claim a right to hold the finished film.

As Busuievsky says, the latest ruling does say that "Gilliam owes 10,000 euros and there will probably be more money required to put this whole mess to bed. However, these financial issues don’t affect the film’s release."

According to the producer, they chose to remain quiet with the American press about the actual nitty gritty because it didn’t feel necessary, but when Branco went public with his victory and claimed rights to the film, they felt they had to step forward and air all the “dirty laundry.” The producer says they are making plans for European territories now, and the US distribution will be coming shortly. She went on to say that “there are many options” in regards to US distributors.

-THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE

Jonathan Pryce(BRAZIL) channels Don Quixote and Adam Driver(STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS) is the incarnation of Sancho Panza, a man that goes simply by the name Toby. Olga Kurylenko(OBLIVION), Stellan Skarsgård(THE AVENGERS), Joana Ribeiro(DANCIN' DAYS), Óscar Jaenada(THE LOSERS), Jason Watkins (TABOO), Sergi López(PAN'S LABYRINTH)  and Jordi Mollà(RIDDICK)are also weaved into this tale of chivalry, high adventure, of mythical, and magical proportions.
