A MICHAEL JACKSON Broadway Musical!

Afternoon geeks!

I can think of no better way than to remember a beloved singer and performer more than putting their life to music. According to Dark Horizons, the Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live Stage have announced plans to develop a broadway musical inspired by MJ’s life!

You hear about the sad things that happened in his life in passing, and the weird shit that came on in the news occasionally. I honestly feel that when his hair had caught fire during the shooting of a PEPSI commercial in 1984 was his gateway to heavy drugs that further warped his mind. He suffered second and third degree burns and the doctors gave him things to deal with it. Things that can make a person’s life worse if they are already feeling disconnected and have many things to cope with. I am absolutely not justifying anything he did afterward, but I am acknowledging how sad things went. Perhaps if that never happened, we would still be alive today.

Contemporary ballet superstar and Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon (“An American in Paris”) is directing and choreographing. The two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (“Swat,” “Ruined”) is writing the production’s ‘book’.

The score will include several of Jackson’s hits including “Smooth Criminal”, “Beat It”, “Thriller”, and “Don’t Stop Until You Get Enough”. We’re expecting to see the production in 2020, it’s uncertain which theater it will be coming to right away.
