Hey folks, it looks like Val Kilmer will be in the sequel to TOP GUN!
Kilmer will return to the role of the ACTUAL Top Gun of 1986, Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, who was then saved by wingman Tom Cruise's Maverick during a hostile engagement with six Russian MiG jets. (At the moment, there's no official confirmation yet if Rick Rossovich is returning as his Radar Intercept Officer, Slider, or if Tim Robbins will be reprising his role as Merlin.)
Joseph Kosiniski (OBLIVION) will direct, from a script by Peter Craig (THE TOWN) and Justin Marks (THE JUNGLE BOOK). Also returning to the project is Harold Faltermeyer.

The Wrap reported way back in 2015 that Kilmer put a notification up on his Facebook page when the project was first in development, with a gushing love-letter to the project back in early, theoretical casting days. To read the original Wrap story with what Kilmer said:
