Orwell's 1984? No, this time it's all WONDER WOMAN! Hope there's a Space Jetpack somehow!

What’s Old is New Again!

In the vein of BUMBLEBEE and CAPTAIN MARVEL, details have been released indicating that WONDER WOMAN 2 will also be set in the near past, more specifically, in 1984.

The above image appeared on the twitter pages of Geoff Johns and Patty Jenkins, who later went on to release a brief synopsis of the much-anticipated sequel. The new film will take place in the midst of the Cold War, and the villain will be Cheetah, portrayed by Kristen Wiig.

Wiig is certainly an interesting choice, but one that I am personally excited to see attached to the project. Her dramatic turns in WELCOME TO ME and THE SKELETON TWINS prove that she has the acting chops to bring some legitimacy and dimensionality to what could easily be dismissed as a ridiculous character. I mean, let’s be honest: Cheetah looks great in the pages of a comic book or as an animated character, but the idea of a real human/cat hybrid brings to mind laughable images.

The return of Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins add more hopeful excitement to this project, and if we could get a snippet of that bitchin’ piano roll from the 70s TV show’s theme song, I certainly wouldn’t scoff at that. I was fervently looking forward to an outing for the heroine in which she doesn’t have to pine (pun intended) over some boy the whole time, but rumors insist that Chris Pine will be returning for the sequel, though in what capacity remains unclear.

So what has Diana been doing for the past 60 or 70 years? And will we see Cheetah’s on-screen origins or will she appear fully-realized, a la Heath Ledger’s Joker in THE DARK KNIGHT. We’ll find out on November 1, 2019.

See you at the movies! -McEric-
