Lawrence Kasdan to write and direct Anita Bryant movie

Hey folks, there's news that Lawrence Kasdan will be writing and directing an Anita Bryant movie, specifically about Bryant's opposition to anti-discrimination towards gay and lesbian people in the late seventies.

This is not a huge stretch for Kasdan, who outside of his work for the STAR WARS universe and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, also wrote, directed and produced THE BIG CHILL and GRAND CANYON. Bryant's work with Save Our Children to fight against the decriminalization and destigmatization of homosexuality holds strong parallels to our current political climate, where protections and freedoms have been rolled back on transgender people and declared immigrants promised a fair chance to legally transition to citizenship.

Bryant was famously 'pied' in 1977 on live television-- hit in the face by a pie from an activist during a press conference-- a moment of embarrassment which came to represent the end of Bryant's movement, and will undoubtedly play a pivotal moment in Kasdan's film.
