With some great casting news from DEADLINE regarding Paul Verhoeven’s newest film BLESSED VIRGIN.
The amazing Charlotte Rampling has signed on for a key supporting role along Virginie Efira, Lambert Wilson, and Daphne Patakia.
The basic synopsis finds a 17th century Italian nun who is stricken by macabre religious and erotic visions. A companion there to assist her becomes much more and they delve into a love affair together.
If you don’t know her, Charlotte Rampling has been in over 150 films and so many good ones among them. If you don’t know her work I’d recommend ZARDOZ, ANGEL HEART, D.O.A., ASPHALT TANGO, and SWIMMING POOL to start.
I still haven’t seen HANNAH and now BLESSED VIRGIN is on the to-do list.
For the kids out there Paul Verhoeven was one of the best directors in the late 80’s/early 90’s. He directed some great films, FLESH & BLOOD, TOTAL RECALL, BASIC INSTINCT, STARSHIP TROOPERS, HOLLOW MAN, and one of my absolute favorite films, the original ROBOCOP.
I had to get that X rated version of ROBOCOP from Criterion collection when it came out, just to know what was cut out of the theatrical version. I’m disappointed to report it’s literally 2 scenes that gave it that ridiculous rating.
In his heyday he was known for violent thought provoking films. Now he’s matured into a director finding the discomfort in the little things. He’s still thought provoking, but on a more intimate scale. I’m excited for everything the man directs. Any other die hard Verhoeven fans out there??
