Hey folks... Blumhouse Productions has been raising the bar for low-budget horror for years. Now it appears that they've decided to tackle vampires with FAMILY BLOOD, starring Vinessa Shaw (THE HILLS HAVE EYES, HOCUS POCUS) and James Ransone (SINISTER 1 & 2). FAMILY BLOOD was directed by Sonny Mallhi (ANGUISH), who co-wrote the script with Nick Savvides.
Recovering addict Ellie (Shaw) is struggling to keep her life in balance, desperate to regain her life and hold on to her family. At an addicts' meeting, she comes to the attention of Christopher (Ransone), a vampire struggling with his own addictions, who sees in Ellie someone he can share his dependency with. As Ellie begins to change under Christopher's power, her two children must fight the monster to hold on to their mother.
Most of my favorite takes on vampirism have been films talking about addiction. While the approach isn't vastly original, it looks really well done.
FAMILY BLOOD was released on March 16th into selected theaters; no word yet on when it will be released to other platforms.
