Key & Peele, and Selick Team Up with Netflix for Stop Motion Feature

Afternoon, geeks!

After great success at the Oscars, winning best original screenplay for GET OUT, Jordan Peele has made the exciting decision to team back up with Keegan-Michael Key to produce an animated film called WENDELL AND WILD. Netflix will be financing and distributing the project. Henry Selick (CORALINE, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, and JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH) helms the project as director.

So far what we have about the premise is that it is about two scheming demon brothers who “face off with a nun and a pair of goth teens”. Surely, there’s far more to it than that, but somehow I’m getting an inkling of HELL AND BACK. Nobody needs a repeat of that thing. I’m surprised that I still even remember it.

Key and Peele themselves will be voicing the demon brothers, not much else is known about the casting at this time.

Penning the script is Selick and Peele, along with Clay McLeod Chapman.

An acclaimed Argentinian artist by the name of Pablo Lobato is designing the characters for WENDELL AND WILD. This will be interesting, since Lobato’s style is very stylized with cubism and abstraction. I feel it will be a style that words oddly well in 3D just like what we saw in BOOK OF LIFE.

Here’s some samples of Lobato’s caricatures.

I never knew about Lobato until  today, but I can see why they chose his artwork! Excited to share  more updates with all of you as they come!
