Variety confirms our Cameron/Del Toro/COFFIN Story! And I have something to add!

Hey folks, Harry here... Just to update you on that Oni Press property, THE COFFIN and the story I told you about last Tuesday. Today, Variety confirms the story continuing by saying that Lightstorm hopes that Guillermo Del Toro will take this on for his next directing project on the heels of BLADE 2.

Now, this is going to be very interesting to watch how this gets played out. First, Guillermo's THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE will be coming out at what looks to be Cannes, while also hitting theaters in Spain and Europe. Guillermo is ecstatic about the film, as he made it for himself and he is saying that for the first time as a director he is completely and totally happy with the end results. Now he moves on to BLADE 2. With this project, Guillermo has been heard to exclaim that he wants to make a film that all the talk backers will love. Meaning he wants to make an extremely intense scary action BLADE film that brings some new dimensions to the character.

Now, the interesting part is what happens with Del Toro when BLADE 2 wraps production prior to the 'allegedly impending doomsday strike aka let us create something scarier than the Y2K'.

Well, he'll be in post, he'll probably be working on some scripts, and trying to set up his next film. From my discussions with Guillermo, his dream film would be to do HELLBOY next. He wants to make that movie real bad. Now that project is currently in the producing arms of Lloyd Levin and Larry Gordon.... NOW, if TOMB RAIDER takes off like a rocket, then you can bet Lloyd and Larry will begin going hardcore into getting HELLBOY set up.

Meanwhile, the same genetically engineered fruit fly that dropped me THE COFFIN story, tells me that Cameron is also talking to Guillermo about doing a live-action BATTLE ANGEL ALITA based on the seminal badass Manga post-apocalyptic chick-robot babe that anime fans everywhere thinks is pretty kickass. Now, if you go to BattleAngelAlita.Com, you will find yourself at FOX... which coincadink is Cameron's house of love. So... with Cameron there seems to be alot going on.

With Don Murphy and I believe Disney/Touchstone he has DOMU, based on the OTOMO manga which as Guillermo describes it.... "It's like REAR WINDOW with Psychics!" (just fyi.... say that really fast and at the top of your lungs and your are saying it at Guillermo's whisper). Now, I don't know where this is right now.

Meanwhile we don't really know what is going on with the fantastic LIST OF SEVEN script that Guillermo wrote in a deal with Cameron again... rumors have that this might have fallen through the cracks which would be one of the world's great tragedies... sigh....

Meanwhile, Guillermo has another project called MEPHISTO'S BRIDGE (sometimes referred to as SPANKY) which had BLADE II not gone forward, this might have been in production... Now though, it might be a victim of Guillermo's own success... Though again, that would be sad.

So.... where does this leave THE COFFIN and Guillermo? I don't know. Knowing El Gordo like I do, he probably already has the script written and one entire book of self-made designs and storyboards... And I have heard rumors that Bill Wisher might be involved in the script process, due to Del Toro's BLADE 2 directing duties...

Whatever the case may be Guillermo is a director of passions and heart... and whatever project he goes on after BLADE II, his heart and passion will definitely follow. And my ass will too.
