Yesterday a trailer to “Deep Blue Sea 2” was released. While I wasn’t one of those clamoring for a sequel, I have to admit, this one looks like a lot of fun.
“Deep Blue Sea 2” is directed by Darin Scott who was a producer of “Menace II Society” but I haven’t seen any of the films he has directed. It stars Michael Beach and Daniell Savre whom I’m also not familiar with. I know this is a sequel but it’s so close in storyline to the first one I think they could have just called this a reimagining or original concept.
Michael Beach gets the Samuel L. Jackson role from first film of a scientist/doctor type playing with nature to predictable results. We can only hope Michael gets as shocking a removal from the film as Mr. Jackson did from the first one.
To be honest, this sequel looks like it could surpass the original. The sharks look much better and less like the CGI creations they obviously were in original. I don’t know about you but nothing takes me out of a film quicker than a clearly CGI creation blended badly into the real world. These sharks look pretty legit. They look like bull sharks and not the standard great white’s we have seen since “Jaws” made us think twice about swimming in the ocean with these beasts.
I love everything shark, from documentaries all the way to “Sharknado” and everything inbetween. Recently, I sort of liked “The Shallows” though it had some truly unbelievable scenarios that irked me. I currently have “47 meters” waiting on my DVR and will add “Deep Blue 2” to me list now too.
