“YOU ARE MY FRIEND” Tom Hanks to Play Mr. Rogers in Biopic!

Good evening, everyone! It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

It’s the Biopic we never asked for, because we never knew we wanted it! “YOU ARE MY FRIEND” starring Tom Hanks as generations’ childhood friend: Mister Rogers! I wasn’t sure of this casting at first, but more I look at the side by side, the more certain I was! Obviously it’s hard to cast a dead ringer for a living person in our collective memory, who we miss, but I know Tom Hanks has the ability to pull off the role!

Marielle Heller helms the project as director. She has previously directed “Diary of a Teenage Girl”. This lady is going to have her hands full this year, as not only “YOU ARE MY FRIEND” has been announced for 2018, but also “A Case Against 8”, “Kolma”, and “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”

Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster are penning the script! Everyone involved has shown a lot of enthusiasm for the project, which only bodes well for a film! I personally would like to learn more about Fred Rogers and what kind of life he lead. There’s a famous clip where he is joking around and flipping off the camera. Is he actually a Bob Saget type where he’s clean on television but the complete opposite in person? (Of course, after “Full House” Bob Saget went on to be himself in his stand up.)

Apparently the film is based on the real life friendship between Fred Rogers and an award winning journalist by the name of Tom Junod. Junod wasn’t too thrilled to receive the assignment write a piece on Rogers, but ends up having his world turned on its head upon getting to know the guy. No word just yet on who is playing Junod.

I’m looking forward to when the first trailer drops for this!
