Precious Roy here with a trailer for the Netflix film THE RITUAL, which looks to be a decent horror film. It's directed by David Bruckner (THE SIGNAL) and stars Rafe Spall, Sam Troughton, Arsher Ali and Robert James-Collier as college friends who reunite on a backpacking trip to memorialize a friend who's passed away. After one of the friends is injured, they decide to cut their long trip in half by cutting through the unmarked, forbidding forest. The party spends a horrid night in the forest and can't agree in the morning whether the horror from the night before was real or not.
I'm not big on jump scares, even though I'm just as get-able as anyone with them. I prefer the dread horror of seeing Michael Myers rise up behind an unsuspecting Laurie, or Mark Petrie seeing his dead friend claw expectantly at his bedroom window, compelling Mark to let him in. This trailer is less about the jumps and more about things you can barely see, but sense are off. It's jumbled enough not to reveal it's secrets, and doesn't seem to blow it's best scares. Looking forward to seeing this!
THE RITUAL debuts on Netflix February 9th.
