Charlie Kaufman (Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind) has signed up to direct an adaptation of Iain Reid’s novel I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS for Netflix. The novel seems perfect for Charlie, mixing humor and reality in a sobering form of medicine that might leave a sour taste in one’s mouth. Jake takes a road trip with his girlfriend to visit his parents. His girlfriend has issues. She wants to end things. So Jake makes an unexpected detour and leaves her stranded. Tons of strange creepy situations happen. The novel makes one feel a slue of uncomfortable feelings. Again, perfect for Charlie.
No matter the context, I know Charlie Kaufman will capture my heart, tear it to pieces, throw it down but will leave clues so that i can find all the parts to glue them back together. Long story short… he will destroy me so that i can release the past and arise anew, bright and shiny.
It pains me to see a Charlie Kaufman film whether he directs it or not but its these films that inspire me, that move mountains, that change my world. And i love Charlie Kaufman for them.
