LET’S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS. TO TALK A-BOUT … RE-MAKES
In a series of Disney movie live-action remakes, Mulan is no exception. Though, on the subject of war in a distant land and female empowerment in a male dominated culture in history, I feel that this remake could stand out from the rest of the “princess” movies and become something truly sensational. I say this only if they choose to not be lazy and NOT make a shot for shot remake as they did for “Beauty and the Beast”.
I finally got around to watching the live-action remake for “Beauty and the Beast”, while they did improve upon some things, other parts fell flat, and I had zero regrets not going to see it in the theater, because I had already seen the entire fucking movie back in the 90s. Emma Watson rolling her sarcastic eyebrows throughout the first musical sequence set a flat tone for the movie and she didn’t take her role seriously until halfway through the movie.--Okay, that’s as much as I’m going to allow myself to rant about “Beauty and the Beast” right now without it being a full review, which I may not ever get around to doing anyway, unless you guys REALLY want me to.
Back to MULAN!
Liu Yifei has been cast as the title character, Mulan! The actress is known in the States for her work in “The Forbidden Kingdom” and (if you’re cool) “Ip Man 3”. Yifei has won awards in Best Actress and Most Charismatic Actress.
Will Eddie Murphy reprise his role as the voice of Mulan’s ancestral guardian dragon? Do we want him to? He might as well since those rumors about “Coming to America 2” turned out to be false. Who would you guys like to see as modern update to that role?
Here’s something fun you may not have known about in the original Mulan: Jackie Chan himself was cast as the role of the Shang in the Chinese language release, and even sang “Make a Man Out of You”. Check out the music video!
Music and songs were a very strong element in the original movie, looking forward to how they interpret them in the new Mulan! I’m gonna foam at the mouth when we finally get a trailer it.
