Scooby Doo’s Daphne and Velma Get Their Own LIVE-ACTION Movie...What?

Heya folks. Animation geekette Checking in!

Looks like the Tisdale sisters’ Blondie Girl Productions and Warner Bros. Television Group’s Blue Ribbon Content digital studio is bringing us the prequel that literally no one asked for, starring Scooby Doo’s very own mystery-solving gals in a LIVE-ACTION movie: Daphne and Velma.

Sarah Jeffery (“Shades of Blue”) and Sarah Gilman (“Last Man Standing”) take on the title roles as Daphne and Velma

“Daphne and Velma,” tells the origin story of how two met and formed Mystery Inc. The two are best friends who have only met online (I don’t think this was a story they were dying to tell anyone for very long), then Daphne transfers to Velma’s school. Ridge Valley High is a school that is very high-tech thanks to its benefactor, billionaire Tobias Bloom. But things aren’t as they should be in Ridge Valley High when the school’s brightest students begin disappearing only to return in a zombified trance.

Peter Girardi, EVP of Blue Ribbon Content says “We wanted to give the audience a new take on these two familiar faces, who are fan favorites in the Scooby-Doo universe.”

“A Scooby-Doo UNIVERSE”? That’s the most cringe-worthy thing I have heard in awhile. Looks like Marvel and DC have set the bar for what movies will be like (or try at) for the next few years. What has science done?!

It’s cool that Hollywood is trying to empower the ladies these days, but the subject that they have chosen to work within this case is kind of weird. On second thought, as I’m searching through pictures of them together for this article, it could be really cute!

They’re currently shooting this film in Atlanta, and plan to release it sometime 2018 direct to VOD and DVD.
