If you’ve asked anyone who has seen “The Room” what they think of it, there tends to be an extreme reaction to either love or seething hatred. There’s awkward as heck dialogue and cardboard acting; it was as though the writer didn’t understand human beings at all. These were the ingredients that made for a cult classic regarded as a “disaster masterpiece”, winning Best Film at the 2004 New York International Independent & Video Film Festival.
Now finally, we get a theatrical peak into the life of the star, producer, writer, and director of “The Room”, Tommy Wiseau. Portraying the role of Wiseau in “The Disaster Artist” is none other than James Franco! I didn’t even recognize him at first, but he fits right into the role. Taking after the character Franco is playing, Franco is also directing, but not writing!
“The Disaster Artist” promises comedy with Dave Franco and Seth Rogan also acting in this film. Tommy Wiseau himself will be in the movie as someone named Henry. Bryan Cranston, J.J. Abrams, and Zach Braff will make appearances as themselves. This movie seems all over the place and makes Wiseau out to be a creep in the trailer. Is he someone we can love to hate? I’m looking forward to seeing this one.
