It's an interesting coincidence that I was just writing about a sports scandal that happened in 1994 earlier today, because it just so happens to be the same year that the original "The Lion King" was released. Is this a connection to the motive of "I, Tonya" as we discussed in the talkbacks?
Kidding.
Anyways, the new "Lion King" remake has an amazing all star cast! And no one can accuse Disney of white-washing lions. James Earl Jones has lived long enough to reprise his role as Mufasa, Beyonce is Nala, and Donald Glover is Simba. The list goes on:
Zazu: John Oliver
Scar: Chiwetel Ejiofor
Sarabi: Alfre Woodard
Rafiki: John Kani
Pumbaa: Seth Rogan
Timon: Billy Eichner
Heyenas: Eric Andre, Florence Kasumba, Keegan-Michael Key
This remake doesn't seem necessary, but I'm going to see it anyway, it will be fun. They've been retelling Hamlet for hundreds of years, Disney can retell a retelling of Hamlet 20 years later! But admit it though, you were far more upset by Mufasa's passing than Hamlet's dad's. It gets even better, we get to relive those feels on the big screen!
"The Lion King" will be released July 19 2019.
