A red band trailer for "I, Tonya" has been dropped!

Heya fellow geeks! Big Eyes reporting!

♫ Back in the 90s there was a very famous scandal♫ between ice skaters Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. They had an unhealthy rivalry between them. Shortly after performing one day, Kerrigan was struck in the knee by someone trying to enfeeble her. There was much controversy over Tonya Harding's involvement and if she knew about the attack beforehand. Eventually she pleaded guilty to hindering investigation, and six months later, the US Figure Skating associated decided to strip Harding of her title of the 1994 national championship. Tonya was also banned from participating in anything sponsored by the US Figure Skating Championships.

I still remember seeing Nancy Kerrigan on the news in footage shortly after her attack, asking "Why?!" over and over in between crying. It was incredibly disturbing to my young mind.

This new movie seems to depict Tonya's side of the story. "Competitive ice skater Tonya Harding rises amongst the ranks at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, but her future in the activity is thrown into doubt when her ex-husband intervenes." Supposedly Tonya's ex-husband hired Kerrigan’s assailant without Tonya’s knowledge.

The trailer.

Why do you guys think that this story is being retold now, more than 20 years later, is it just timing or is there some other motive?

Signing off,
~Big Eyes
