The new Black Panther trailer is out! Our Precious Roy is here with a write up on the trailer and of course the trailer itself! This is a hero many of us have been eagerly awaiting I know I have, growing up around the comics him and Luke Cage were both regular reading for my family and friends. This is going to hopefully kick as much ass as we hope, and it would be awesome at some point to have Cage and the King meet, maybe in the sequel (fingerscrossed please be as good as we want and need you to be!!) Read on for Precious Roy's take and I will chat at the bottom!
This trailer is giving us so much more of the flavor of Wakanda, with only hints at the story. The best bits of the MCU seem to stand very well on their own and allow room for stories and characters to cross over, and I'm betting they've found the right balance in BLACK PANTHER.
As Everett Ross points out at the beginning of the trailer, there's a peek about just how far ahead of the rest of Earth the Wakandans are, and it's breathtaking. It's not just a location... it's a language, an alphabet, a fighting style, a functioning and safe ecosystem, and a technology that exists outside of the world we know... and it's vastly superior. That Ross immediately covets it is everything you need to know about why the Wakandans have been hiding it, and who they are hiding it from.
We get a great deal more of Michael B. Jordan's Killmonger in this trailer. The bit of dialogue they shared from him didn't make the best impression, but seeing him in a panther suit was great. There's less of Klaw here, and I'm not sure how to take that. Is he a fly-in guest, as he was in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, or is he a prominent part of the story? Hope we'll get to see him quite a bit, as he finally gets to use the sonic emitter.
The chase scene towards the end reminds me of just how good Black Panther's chase scenes were in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, even the ones that were just within a building. I don't know how this or ANT MAN AND THE WASP will feed into AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, but looking forward to seeing it all play out.
