TRAFFICKED opening TODAY Friday the 13th in Dallas - Astro Heathen Gives the Trailer a Double-take.

Hola Dannie aqui!
Our little Astro Heathen flew in with a heads up on "TRAFFICKED" a film opening TODAY Friday the 13th in Dallas Texas and will be showing for a week at the Cinemark 17 Dallas located at 11819 Webb Chapel Road! Watch the trailer at the bottom of her article, this is a very serious subject manner and one that rarely is tackled, so read Astro's report to prepare for the trailer and I hope those in Dallas support this film.

Astro Heathen here with a disturbing article fit for Friday the 13th. Just a heads up, this film is in fact about sexual abuse and human trafficking.

Aging out of foster care, or sometimes simply running away and not being looked for, leads many children to become victims of exploitation in some of the most traumatizing, dangerous and even deadly ways imaginable, generating a profit that surpasses the combined income of Google, Nike, and a handful of other controversial businesses together: sex trafficking and child labor. The unsettling reality is, the average age of sex slavery is 14 and over a million children are estimated to be taken each year around the world.

"Inspired by real characters from the award winning book 'Sex Trafficking: Inside the Business of Modern Slavery' by Siddharth Kara, this is the story of three such girls from America, Nigeria and India. After being trafficked through an elaborate global network of illicit human, organ, and drug trafficking, all three girls end up as sex slaves in a brothel in Texas."

Harvard professor Siddartha Kara, who has dedicated a good portion of his life to studying and advocating against contemporary slavery and human trafficking, wrote the screenplay and produced this film opening today in Dallas Texas, which took me by surprise in not being a documentary type film. The director, Will Wallace, has 10 directing credits to his name on IMDB, and 59 acting credits. Turns out he owns an acting company! So if anything, I can respect Wallace for his dedication to the craft. Frankly, I haven't seen any of his other films, some I can't even find a plot summary or trailer to, but between GONE (2011) and his involvement with TEEN WOLF and LINCOLN, I'm on edge about TRAFFICKED.

The cast looks great, with Sean Patrick Flanery (THE EVIL WITHIN, THE BOONDOCK SAINTS, SUICIDE KINGS) to Ashley Judd (DOUBLE JEOPARDY, Tina Modotti in FRIDA and Ben Horne's secretary in TWIN PEAKS season 3), as well as Jason London (Pink from DAZED AND CONFUSED) and Efren Ramirez (Pedro from NAPOLEON DYNAMITE) taking on a more sinister role.

Anjali Bhimani from OVERWATCH plays a character named Sheela, while Natasha Mayet of VAMPIRE ACADEMY and PITCH PERFECT 3 (coming out this December) is simply credited Indian Trafficked Girl so far. Obviously the trailer doesn't want to give way too much character or plot development, but the first time watching the trailer I thought maybe I'd try Kara's book first. I've seen CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST and I didn't want to sit through another exploitation movie of torture I know is all too real, but after watching the trailer a few more times and researching what an interesting team of people are behind it, of course I'll need to see this film. The subject matter is something I do my best to drag into the light, but for an entertainment website I better slow my horses, catch this movie in theaters and weep for humanity in my own time. Hopefully TRAFFICKED will kick so much ass it will kindle a fire of resilience and initiative to fight against this nightmare of an epidemic.

Stay safe and stay spooky this weekend,
Astro Heathen Staro signing out.

Dannie back,

Thank you Astro Heathen for wrestling this subject for AICN, and helping get the word out on a film many would have missed.
