Well our BigEyes spotted an animated music video for "IN WINTER" and it is one Thor would definately love! So check it out, animation lovers!
BigEyes here with a beautiful and touching new animated music video by musician Matt Pond PA, “IN WINTER”.
The animation and lyrics are based around a story from Norse Viking Mythology about Njord and Skadi, two gods and lovers with a very relatable situation. Njord is of the Summer, and the beach, Skadi is of the Winter and the forest. Unable to decide where to live together, they take turns in each other’s land. When staying in within the other’s realm for nine months, the visitor felt miserable and it simply wasn’t home.
Njord and Skadi loved each other, but not the other’s world. An example of how two people can be so good and so bad for each other at the same time. What was left, somewhere in the middle where they both would be unhappy? No harsh feelings between them, but it was time to move on. A sad story that a lot of us have run into ourselves at some point.
I looked very closely at a lot of things in this video, at the tree with the orbs in particular. This was supposed to be a representation of the tree Yggdrasil connecting the nine realms. It seems as though one of the “orbs” representing Niflheim was missing, “the land of fog and mist”. Perhaps it was to symbolize that both of the gods were “clear headed” in their feelings.
The animation is done by JOY + NOELLE, a New York based animation company with plenty of work done in the same style on their website. The only complaint I have about the animation is that it could have stood to have been smoother, but other than that, everything else was beautiful. There was much detail and Norse Viking symbolism wonderfully put together in this delightful music video.
This video just premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival on October 12th, 2017. Check it out and enjoy this feast for the eyes and the soul!
