Even Thulsa Doom and Bankruptcy Can't Stop CONAN!!
Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
Well, I have good news. When Father Geek posted his story about the fate of the upcoming CONAN film at Warner Bros., there were some very good questions raised about the fate of the film if Stan Lee Media faces bankruptcy in the coming weeks. In that story, his source said the following:
"Well, remember that stock deal for the Conan franchise to CPI? According to a Dow Jones release 'there are certain price and volume protection rights for the shareholders of Conan Properties Inc. for the first 21 months following the acquisition.'"
This is true, but it's not the bad news the source seemed to think it was. Far from it. I've had an exchange with one of the principal players in this new CONAN film, and he's explained things further for me. Arthur Lieberman, who is not only the lawyer for Conan Properties, Inc. but also one of the producers of the original film, is very much in favor of a WB deal happening. Let's say the worst case scenario for Stan Lee Media happens. Even if the rights revert to CPI as a result of a bankruptcy, that just puts CPI back in the driver's seat. They will definitely push forward with the deal. Arthur was the behind-the-scenes guiding hand in the SLM/WB negotiation, anyway. It's not like he's getting stuck with something he didn't want.
Trust me on this one, fellow CONAN fans... it'll work out. This was never going to be a quick and easy process. In the meantime, everything's rolling ahead creatively. Keep in mind the intense pressures of the MATRIX sequels and the fact that Milius isn't even ready to start scripting until he finishes up his French foreign legion film for Beacon. Once the deal's finally done, you'll see progress really get underway.
Now if they could just get Arnold for one last great movie before he squanders what little star power he still has left...
"Moriarty" out.

I'm......not gonna say it, because that would suck and I hate things that suck, like Auhnuld does.

CROM!!!
Conan the Barbarian is epic, moving and perhaps Arnolds best role, apart from Predator and the Terminator.Lets hope this film is like 'Barbarian' ,not destroyer. Grace Jones ?!!!
BUT...is there a sufficient worldwide audience for this, among the general public? We all love it, but does the rest of the world?
Will Arnold do it ? He now says he will only do intelligent scripts, different from the 80s.
Don't do Eod or the sixth day then!!!
How Arnie thought End of Days was a big epic film to come back with is beyond me.
Any news on Collateral Daamge being postponed to 2002?
what is this Millius foreign legion film? -
On the commentary track on the DVD, featuring Milius and Arnold, at the end Arnold says to Milius something to the effect of "So after watching this again and realizing what a great time it was, I'm ready for you to write another one for me." Sounds like he'd do it.
-
Yeah arnold said 'we should do a third conan, i'm waiting for you to write one', but I think he was kidding around, getting our hopes up to keep interest in his plummeting career...
-
I'm psyched about the idea of it -- Schwarzenegger finally getting back to doing what he does best (smashing people and stuff), Milius at the helm, Conan blathering inanely while smashing people and stuff... you get the idea. But in reality, this is probably something they should drop. It's more than 10 years too late. Ahnuld doesn't LOOK like Conan anymore, and it's going to end up being one of those overblown yet empty actioners he seems to be mired in lately. Don't get me wrong, I'll be first in line... but you really gotta wonder why they can't just devote their time and energies to an ORIGINAL project that has the same flavor and tone as Conan but won't retread so much bygone material... In another year or two, there won't be ANY new stuff coming out of Hollywood -- it'll just be CONAN 3, SCOOBY DOO 2, THE HILLS HAVE EYES PT. 6, etc. It's a damned shame, when so many great NEW stories are out there waiting to be told...
-
we need another good conan movie, but avoid conan the destroyer style bullshit, and praise the matrix brothers to bring millius to the conan saga again.i hope arnie have learn some lections of his bad movies since the latest jhon cameron fest
-
They ought to use Arnold and look at some of the later Conan stories, after he becomes Conan the King. Bringing some maturity to the character could really help, and it only makes sense given how much time has passed since the last movie. I think it would be a mistake to bring in some young guy at this point and squander the recognition value of Arnold as Conan. I think Milius could come up with something really evocative with an older Conan.
-
CONAN! CONAN! CONAN! CONAN! CONAN! I want to see this get made. I want to see this genre again. I want to see an older Conan. I want to see it. I want it to be cool.
-
It would be great to see mention of Conan's creator, Robert E. Howard in these articles. If you'd like to know more about REH, check out the film 'A Whole Wide World' starring Vincent D'nofrio and yet unknown Renee' Zellewegher. Or how about visiting some of the sites devoted to the young man who wrote all these stories? You can start here

Aw-nold as a aging, bored, warrior/king. And then one day a you
by smugbug
Wow - I picture Conan's mighty stone fortress in the background -his troops at bay also. Conan's lone figure mounted on his mighty black steed - riding alone to the center of the great battlefield to meet and fight to the end his young challenger. The Challenger waiting, while his minions also stand aside while their young warrior/leader fights the elder, legendary leader.
oooh, I'm getting goosebumps... -
Lords of Light! Demon Dogs! Ariel, Ookla, RIDE!!
-
I actually like the idea of Old King Conan facing new challengers while in the autumn of his years. I hope this movie gets made.
-
I mean, I sat through the first two Conan flicks, and they were all right, but... another one? I'm not sure how smart this is. A movie-going audience in 2001 (or 2005, whenever the hell this thing gets off the ground) probably isn't going to pay to see a Conan the Barberian movie.
-
Isn't this just another sham post from Bob Odenkirk...hoping to generate more interest in his MR. SHOW movie? Tera Delu, The Bob!
-
a new conan movie would be great but to let arnold have it or not? if they gave it to him then there would be endless talkbacks comparing him to his younger...less articulate and muscular self. but on the flip side there would be endless talkbacks dedicated to how much the producers suck becuase they went with someone else besides arnold. screw that action....flash...here's what you all need to worry about. in this world of PC and trying to please the audience i think they will find some nice asian guy who weights 110 lb and is in full american indian dress. (as conan) then his sidekick could be a wise cracking brother from the hood with a heart of gold. his adversary could be a straight laced white guy dressed in a corporate suit..uh armor who speaks with an outrageous disney-fied english accent and speaks on his +3 cell phone of death. this will assure the movie studio of making a windfall and insure that we'll have conan movies for the next ten years or so. there is only one way to make a new conan movie and that will go over like a fart in church. it needs to be a womanizing gorefest like conan was. the studios got away with him clocking a horse last time. that kind of shit will have PETA all over them. i am soooo afraid this film will be so pasturized it will totally suck....regardless who plays conan.
-
"I think we've got a deal, Conan." "Bah. Crom laughs at your deals." "But we'll get your sequel made." "I never hired a lawyer before. Now, I do not have the time. Get me my movie made. If not, then to hell with you!" "I said I got you a deal! Jesus!" "What gods do you pray to?" "The billable hour." "Wealth can be a wonderful thing. But it can also test one's mettle as much as the strongest adversary." "All I gotta say to that, boobie, is test my mettle! Test my mettle."

Funny how, when T1 came out in 1984, everyone said this guy had 'moved on' from pulp medieval stuff to better things. They were right. Now people say (wrongly) he should go back to it. Conan is fine, but do most Arnold fans really need a third? I don't, and I love the guys work (well, not Jingle All The Way!). There are so many better things the man could/should do. The guy who mentioned on todays other talkback about him doing a Heartbreak Ridge sort of thing - perfect! He's the right age and could still whip a younger man's butt! But anyone who says he can revive his career with Conan 3, who the hell are you kidding?
-
Is if it has Arnold and it is Conan the King. The end of the first two led us to believe that tale would come. Well we are still waiting for that story. Give us Conan the King!
-
Isn't time for a straight-up gay version of the barbarian? The original Conan flicks are basically sublimated homoerotica. Oh you brutes!

I know I sent this poster who complimented my choice - but I had to post here too!
-
by crom the best way to do a new conan flick would be to have arnold depict CONAN AS KING!!!!!
a new younger dude as conan would suck and disrespect the original.
Id rather see ARNOLD come back as CONAN THE KING instead of seeing his old as the TERMINATOR. -
All the talk about whether Arnold should do Conan again is missing the point. The Conan stories are wonderfully entertaining, and not merely Arnold vehicles. The first two films indicate a third film of Conan about when "he wore a crown upon a troubled brow." Arnold is not too old to play this role. The perfetct Robert E. Howard story to adapt is "The Hour of the Dragon," where Conan is King of Aquilonia and must defend his realm. It was the last full Howard story of Conan, and in it the Cimmerian is around 50. So it is a perfect fit.

As I said before in another talkback on this subject. . .
by sith lord jesus
They should just pick up where the first one left off, pretend that CONAN THE DESTROYER doesn't exist and do the second movie over again--this time with either Russell Crowe, the Rock or HHH in the lead role and an ENTIRELY NEW SCRIPT. Don't laugh--wrestlers like the Rock are perfect for a hyper-fantasy role like this. Go for epic scale with a score to match. Same with RED SONJA--give Rene

I find all the buzz about Arnold's star fading rediculously short-sighted. It is not the man, but the films that are losing the public interest. If a great T3 or Conan flick were to be made, people would line up around the block. The fact is EOD and 6D were whimpy films compared to those that made Arnie a superstar. People may want a kinder, gentler nation, but they want their Arnold tough and violent.
-
i don't want a conan with an accent; i don't want conan the king, but it could be done very well... what i would like to see is the young cimmerian a la robert jordan's howard-faithful novels. i just hope any new conan movie is not like the others.
-
Hell, I thought it was pretty good. What's your problem with it? It had more special effects? More characters? More adventuring? Monsters? Magic? I try to see what makes most of you think the first one was great and the second trash and I just don't see it. I see two conan movies and the second one had a bigger budget, bigger story, and more effects. Most importantly neither one of them sucked. I think one retarded moron posts an opinion here and a dozen more morons jump on the bandwagon. I see it over and over on this website. Half of you whiney bitches probably never saw either movie. When King Conan is finally made, I'll be there on opening day. So long as it's Arnold playing Conan, otherwise I'll steer clear. I wouldn't mind seeing that hulking arnold wannabe guy from the 1800 collect commercials playing Conan's son. That'd be pretty good so long as Arnold is the star.
-
She is sorta the sequel villain queen with Conan the Destroyer, Superman 2, Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time, Swamp Thing 2, Puppet Masters 4, and a few others to her credit. Of course her character died, but I'm hoping that won't stop Sandal Bergman either.
-
Make Conan the King with an older Arnold OR give Vin Disel a sword and teach him how to swing the damn thing.
-
And eyegore, you stupid, stupid silly person. The destroy sucked ass.
