Jamie Lee Curtis returns for David Gordon Green and Danny McBride's HALLOWEEN!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Well, this is exciting. The Blumhouse-produced Halloween reboot being spearheaded by Danny McBride (writer) and David Gordon Green (writer/director) has not only been dated for October 2018 they've dropped the bombshell that the original final girl has been resurrected to lead the fight against Michael Myers.

That's right, Jamie Lee Curtis is back as Laurie Strode, photo proof below!

I interviewed Danny McBride for Alien: Covenant a few months back and he was very tight-lipped about this project, but did say the aim was to be jumping off that very first movie and I think he meant that literally. This is the full text description in the press release:

Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Master of horror John Carpenter will executive produce and serve as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema’s current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity). Inspired by Carpenter’s classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film, and Green also directs.

That looks to me to be a very sly way of saying the first movie counts and none of the others do. If I'm right, it's a little bit of the Neill Blomkamp/Alien approach. The Halloween franchise has grown so convoluted with the frankly head-scratching and shitty continuity, the only thing that makes sense is to do a direct sequel to that first film.

This was attempted by Dimension when they made H20, a pretty solid flick, actually, that rewrote Laurie as someone essentially in a kind of witness protection program. She had changed her name and moved on, but her brother still found her. After that they straight up murdered Laurie Strode in one of the worst installments of the series (and that's saying something after Halloween 6).

To avoid any kind of soap opera-style entaglements and to make as clean of a break with the worst aspects of this franchise I think they're only option is to make this a "real sequel." This is all fanboy speculation, but if they're bringing Laurie back and putting her at the forefront I have a feeling this is the direction they're going.

Either way, I'm excited. I trust David Gordon Green and Danny McBride's instincts. They've been saying all the right stuff in their brief statements and now they're going back to the original in the most direct way they can, by bringing Jamie Lee Curtis back into the fold. There's even rumor that John Carpenter himself will return to score the movie.

The all new Halloween will see release October 19th, 2018 and I. Can't. Wait.
