Released nationwide to cinemas Jan. 6, “A Monster Calls” earned positive reviews from 81% of “top critics” polled by the Rotten Tomatoes website. It was directed by J.A. Bayona (“The Impossible”), who also helms next year’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.” “A Monster Calls” was written by Patrick Ness, who also created the Doctor Who spin-off “Class.”
