UPDATED!!
THE BATMAN Won’t Be Connected To The BATMAN V SUPERMAN/SUICIDE SQUAD/JUSTICE LEAGUE Universe!!

UPDATE!! Matt Reeves added this via a Thursday-morning tweet: "Jeez, what'd I miss, guys...? Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN..."

What he didn't tweet: "OF COURSE Ben Affleck will be playing Batman in my movie!"

From the GQ website:

In [a radio] interview, [“The Batman” director Matt] Reeves says Warner Bros. executives he had been talking to had told him that the movie wouldn't be connected to any cinematic universe.

"What they said was, ‘Look, it’s a standalone, it’s not part of the extended universe,'” said Reeves, stressing that he got involved because Warner Bros. were excited by his personal vision for Batman, one that he hints might form a trilogy.

Does this “standalone” business mean Ben Affleck will not reprise the Batman role he already played in “Batman V Superman,” “Suicide Squad” and “Justice League”?

Reeves, of course, took over from Affleck as “The Batman” director and subsequently decided not to utilize the Batman script authored by Affleck (“Gone Baby Gone,” “The Town,” “Live By Night”) and Geoff Johns (“Smallville,” “Arrow”).

This news comes on the heels of slightly similar news that director Todd Phillips (all three “Hangover” movies, “Due Date,” “War Dogs”) is ginning up a “standalone” Joker movie that presumably will not star “Suicide Squad” player Jared Leto.
