Here's a wholly average, dull behind the scenes featurette for THE DARK TOWER!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I should have woken up this morning jumping off the walls when I saw there was a behind the scenes featurette for a Dark Tower movie online. This has been something I've been dreaming of since I was in Middle School. An actual Dark Tower movie? For real? Is this real life?!?

But my excitement for what this film could be is about as bare bones as it can possibly get. In fact, I'm not excited at all for it. Curious, to be sure, and a tiny bit hopeful that they'll surprise me and deliver something worthy of the source material, but after following the difficult evolution of this version of the story I just can't shake the "missed opportunity" vibe of the whole thing.

It says something that a throwaway BTS shot of Idris Elba casually twirling his gun while taking direction is the coolest thing in the below featurette. There's nothing inventive about how they're marketing the movie and I'm worried it's because there's nothing for them to really showcase.

The featurette is as average as you can imagine. Short, fluffy, not at all energetic... Just kind of there.

Sony has a tough job on their hands. This is a world that does need to be explained, a franchise that needs to be sold, but to do too much too broadly will take any reason for anybody to actually go see it off the table. The featurette above is pretty much just "There's a good guy and a bad guy" and that's pretty much it.

I don't know. I'm starting to feel like a grinch about this project, but it's only because I love the material so much and get the sinking feeling that this team is missing the bullseye so wildly it's driving me nuts.

I guess we'll see if that feeling is right or not in just a little over a month.
