Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I love Pitch Perfect. Love it. It was such a great surprise when it came out. Not only was it catchy and cute, it had a mean undercurrent of dark, dark humor. They made it weird and because of that weirdness a sizeable cult following sprung up around the flick.
The sequel was fun, but without that surprise element it just became more about hanging with a group of characters I dug for a while. I wasn't as invested, but had fun.
Now, I'm only judging this new one from the brief trailer, but I'm wondering if the shine is off this apple now. The characters I like are there, but I just don't feel all that enthused about spending more time with them. I mean, I'll always make time for Anna Kendrick, of course. I'm not crazy. The more Anna Kendrick in my life the better, but it just kinda feels like the Pitch Perfect wave crashed after the first movie and they're trying to figure out how to keep it going.
Maybe I'm being a dick. Here's the trailer, you tell me if you agree or not:
I'll still see it. I'm invested enough in these characters to give them a shot, but I don't feel all that enthusiastic about it. That might actually be setting me up for the right expectations because I walked into the first one not really thinking it was going to blow me away and it did.
