Doug Liman boards UNEARTHED, a tale described as "Indiana Jones In Space!"

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Doug Liman has lined up his next project, according to THR. It'll be a sci-fi adventure film called UNEARTHED, based on an upcoming Young Adult novel of the same name by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner.

The story takes place in a bit of a fucked future as the Earth is dying due to environmental damage. A message from an alien race promises a solution to reversing this damage and gives the location of the planet that this mysterious solution resides on. It's a race as scholars and scavengers try to get there first.

Naturally there's a question as to whether or not this alien message is pure-hearted and it's down to a shaky alliance between a scholar and a scavenger to find out the real truth behind it all. The THR story describes the aim to achieve a kind of Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider in space vibe.

The book doesn't come out until next January, but it was already optioned last year by Cross Creek who has now partnered with Columbia Pictures and attached Doug Liman (who just did American Made with Tom Cruise for Cross Creek) as director and Spectre screenwriters Jez and John Henry Butterworth.

It's still early in development for this one, but Liman has shown a talent for female badassses in sci-fi settings, so I'm down. What do you folks think?
