Uncharted set to a be a prequel, finds its young Nathan Drake in Spider-Man star Tom Holland!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Shawn Levy's adaptation of Sony's huge Uncharted video game franchise took a turn today. He found his leading man and we also found out that they're not adapting any of the storylines from the known video games. In fact, they're going backward, giving us a prequel that sets up Nathan Drake as the action hero video game fans know and love.

Which explains why we're getting young Tom Holland in the role (per Deadline).

Holland's a great fit on a few levels... he's extremely atheletic and can do a lot of his own stunts. He has the charm and likeability, that's for sure. I also appreciate this approach as a way to keep the comparisons to the video game at a minimum since this is a whole new story, influenced by a quick flashback sequence in the third game showing Drake as a young thief before he became an Indiana Jones relic hunter type.

A new writer will be brought in to tackle this new approach for director Shawn Levy and Sony Pictures.

I like the idea, but it does nag at me a little bit that the core itch the game scratched was a new Indiana Jones type adventure series. I can see this approach leading to that, especially as it grows with its star, but it worries me that such a key element will be missing from the first step out with this potential franchise.

I really dig the games, but I'm not attached to the lore as deeply as some games (lookin' at you Fallout), so I'm down to see them try whatever to finally get this on the screen. I just hope they can make it work.
