Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Poor Tom Cruise looks to spend the majority of this new Mummy movie getting his ass kicked. That's actually one of the most appealing things I've seen in these marketing materials. I'm not saying that because I hate Tom Cruise. Quite the opposite. I love how dependable that dude is and how he always, always, always brings his A-game to every project.
No, I love that he's getting his ass kicked so much in this footage because it shows we're getting a hero who doesn't have an easy job in front of him in this movie. One of the best things Spielberg did to Indiana Jones in Raiders was show how hurt he got in these encounters. It grounded the movie.
I won't go so far as to say I think The Mummy will be grounded. It looks like a CGI action spectacle. But I will say that putting a leading man always getting the shit kicked out of him in the center of it might make a difference in how much I enjoy it.
