The Crown's Claire Foy is Sony's choice to play Lisbeth Salander in THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. THR is reporting that Sony is honing in on their new Lisbeth Salander for Fede Alvarez's reboot of the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series.

It looks like The Crown's Claire Foy has the offer. Whether or not she takes it is up to anyone's guess, but the trade reports that it came down between Foy and Felicity Jones.

I suppose Sony wants to mine this franchise without drawing too close much comparison with David Fincher's Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, a movie I actually really dig. I like the original with Noomi Rapace as well, but I would have loved to have seen Fincher, Roony Mara and Daniel Craig continue on with the series.

But I also think Fede Alvarez is a great visual storyteller and while I'll miss him in the horror world I'm excited to see him get the chance at a big A-list movie.

He'd be starting with the newest book, The Girl In The Spider's Web, which I don't believe has been adapted for the screen before. Interestingly enough, it's also the first novel not actually written by creator Stieg Larsson, who passed away in 2004.

What do you folks think of this development?
