Fox has just greenlit to series “The Gifted,” about X-Men-y Marvel mutants on the run from forces ready to capture, dissect and weaponized them. It stars an unusually blonde Amy Acker (“Angel,” “Dollhouse”), Stephen Moyer (“True Blood”), Jamie Chung (“Gotham”) and Emma Dumont (“Bunheads,” “Aquarius”) as Lorna “Polaris” Dane.
Its trailer asks the question, “Do The X-Men still exist?” I think there was some unpleasantness between the events of “Days of Future Past” and “Logan.” Perhaps this takes place after Wolverine’s old team was decimated?
The trailer reminds me of both "Carrie" and "Firestarter," both of which I suspect were inspired by Jean "Marvel Girl" Grey.
Are the people chasing The Gifted the same people chasing Legion over on FX?
Bryan Singer, who directed four X-Men movies, directed the “Gifted” pilot.
Series creator/showrunner is Matt Nix, who created 2015’s short-lived Billy Crystal sitcom “The Comedians,” 2015’s short-lived Jason O’Mara drama “Complications,” 2010’s short-lived Bradley Whitford hourlong “The Good Guys,” 2017’s short-lived Justin Kirk drama “APB,” and “Burn Notice.”
Fox announces its 2017-2018 schedule between now and Monday afternoon.
