Wait just a damn minute... Thom Yorke is scoring the SUSPIRIA remake?!?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. This Suspiria remake is vexing. I want to hate the idea. Like, flat out. The original is not only a product of its time it's also one of the most interesting visual genre films from one of our best genre filmmakers at the height of his creativity. A thousand filmmakers could have made that movie at a thousand different points in cinema history and it wouldn't have worked without Argento doing it at that exact time.

I want to dismiss this thing, but damn it... they keep making fascinating creative choices and I only find myself intrigued. Tilda Swinton? Perfect fit even before we saw this photo of who she's playing. Dakota Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz and A Cure For Wellness' Mia Goth? All fit this setting and Jessica Harper is gonna pop up, too.

Now we find out (via Variety) that Thom Yorke of Radiohead fame will be scoring the film, his first attempt at composing a full motion picture score.

This tact worked out for David Fincher and Trent Reznor and I'm immediately intrigued with Yorke filling in the score. He's got some mighty big shoes to fill, though. Goblin's score for Argento's original is Top 5 horror score material. Yorke is in the unenviable position of having to both live up to that score without copying it.

This remake, directed by Luca Guadagnino, could be a trainwreck, but it's at the very least going to be an interesting one. And if Guadagnino pulls it off it's going to be something incredibly special. I'll take someone swinging for the fences over playing it safe any day of the week.

What do you folks think?
