“We have an amazing story!” director Doug Liman told the Collider website about the “Edge Of Tomorrow” sequel while promoting “The Wall.” “It’s incredible! Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film. It will be called ‘Live Die Repeat and Repeat.’ Tom [Cruise] is excited about it, and Emily Blunt is excited about it. The big question is just when we’ll do it. But it’s not an if, it’s a when.”
I predict that sequel title will be junked. Nobody’s yet used “All You Need Is Kill,” the title of the first movie’s source material. Perhaps they’ll revert to that?
Liman’s confidence that a sequel will go forward may be surprising to some -- given that “Edge” reportedly deployed a production budget of $178 million (not counting marketing and exhibition costs) and garnered a domestic gross of $99 million. But the witty sci-fi thriller ultimately grossed $370 million worldwide, earned positive reviews from 91% of critics polled by the Rotten Tomatoes website, and apparently sold briskly on Blu-ray.
