Akiva Goldsman continues to dip his dick into the Stephen King Universe with FIRESTARTER!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Late night horror news hit this evening when Akiva Goldsman and Jason Blum announced that they're partnering up for a remake/re-adaptation of Stephen King's Firestarter while at a premiere screening of Goldsman's latest film, Stephanie, at the Overlook Film Festival.

Fuck.

I mean, I guess if he had to monopolize any King title then Firestarter's okay. It's not like he's putting dibs on The Stand or something. The original movie's fine for its time and King's novel isn't my favorite from that era (although it's still pretty awesome), but it irks me that Goldsman, he of Batman & Robin, Winter's Tale and Lost in Space fame, is the go-to guy for Stephen King adaptations now.

Everything I've heard about the guy is that he's a great dude and obviously he's good in a room or he wouldn't get his mitts all over these high value properties, but damn does his work end up stinking most of the time.

Makes me miss the days of Mick Garris doing everything Stephen King and that's saying something.

Maybe I'll let the universe have this one if it means we'll get Frank Darabont's The Long Walk. I can't believe that hasn't happened yet. Perhaps Goldsman getting this and potentially ruining The Dark Tower will swing karma back to the light and Darabont will get his chance at another great King adaptation.

Maybe.
