Jeffrey Wright? KICK-ASS! And tied with Tobey? Better!

    by lenny nero

Finally, an award is given to a performance in a movie that wasn't that good. Glad they see that good performances can come from bad movies (which happens ever so often with James Woods and Delroy Lindo, for instance). Tobey Maguire deserves mucho awards for Wonder Boys.

  • How come aicn doesn't do their own awards? That would be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Happy Holidays everyone!

    Crouching Tiger

    by angela627

glad to see that some associations give a film an award regardless of it being in english or not.
    Tiger deserves it.
Also happy to see Michelle Yeoh getting some recognition, even if it was Runner Up, at least it wasnt runner up to Julia Roberts.

    afterlife

    by heywoodfloyd

is this the same afterlife that was out in the states two or three years ago? if it is, is it possible that it wasn't released in canada until this year? the premise is that when people die, they are detained for a week in a beuracratic netherworld where they are supposed to meditate on their lives and chose one single moment from them which they wish to experience for the rest of eternity. but the part that makes it mandatory filmgeek viewing is that after the recently deceased chose their one moment, the technicians and craftsmen of this strangely normal beurocracy then make a short film of that memeory. anyway, this is an amazing movie that no one saw, and it blows requiem, cthd, the quills, and traffic all out of the water. i highly recommend that anyone on this site see it. ps--the idea about aicn awards is a perfect idea. why should we settle for just bitching about everyone else's best lists when we could concentrate on bitching about our very own? we could all vote, it would be classic. harry, you should take this under serious consideration.

    Wonder Boys Answer

    by yodafett999

Wonder Boys has already been re-released this year in New York and L.A. so unless you reside there you will probably have to wait for it on video or DVD.

    Finally, somebody recognizing "After Life"

    by smilin'jack ruby

I thought it didn't even qualify this year, but it came out on video stateside in 2000. One of the best movies I've ever seen, honestly.

Why Don't AICN have their own awards?

    by the guy

The awards will go to the highest bidder, just like AICN'S "reviews".

    Wonder Boys

    by hisroyalhigh

    hits DVD January 9th.

It's a gem of a film. Not the best of the year (I can't decide between Requiem for a Dream and Almost Famous) but solid 3rd. I haven't yet seen Traffic or The Gift though.

    WayDowntown

    by big andy

This is an excellent movie! The premise is of several friends who make a bet to see who can go the longest without going outside. This is set in Calgary which has its whole downtown interconnected by a series of " + 15s ", which are walkways between buildings at the 2nd story level. As the weeks turn into months we see our competitors start to act a little weird.
