The Leftovers 3.2 FAQ

What’s it called?
“Don’t Be Ridiculous.”

Who’s responsible?
IMDb indicates that the teleplay was authored by series creators Tom Perrotta & Damon Lindelof. HBO indicates Tha Lonely Donkey Kong & Specialist Contagious penned their first produced teleplay. (Perhaps Lonely Donkey Kong & Specialist Contagious are Perrotta and Lindelof’s Wu Tang Clan names?)

What says HBO?
“In her official capacity as fraud investigator for the Department of Sudden Departure (D.S.D.), Nora (Carrie Coon) travels to St. Louis to investigate a possible scam that involves convincing the family members of The Departed there’s a way to see their loved ones again.”

Does the episode open with a flashback?
I don’t think so.

How does it start?
“Did the missing person use an aluminum-based deodorant?”

Does anyone go to Australia this week?
The audience does. Again.

Is Mary Jamison gone?
Gone but not forgotten.

What’s doing with Jill and Laurie?
They are wholly absent this week.

Is Nora’s doppleganger back?
Not this week.

Does the Reverend Matt Jamison keep his clothes on?
Maybe not!

The big news?
Tonight’s episode links directly to the series’ second episode, the one aired July 6, 2014. Also, Brett Butler makes her first “Leftovers” appearance since Nov. 1, 2015. (And she’s far from the only character in tonight’s episode we haven’t seen since last season!)

What else is HBO not telling us?
Remember how celebrities would play troubled versions of themselves on “The Larry Sanders Show” and “Entourage”? That HBO tradition continues.

What’s great?
Carrie Coon as Nora Durst. The mystery of Nora’s cast. Nora dispensing with the shovel. Girls on a trampoline. “I can literally see the lie-wheel turning in your brain.” The rhetorical nature of “Why in heaven’s name would I do that?” “Just go ahead and click yes.” “She went through.” “Jesus, Florence!”

What’s not so great?
I really wanted to see someone “go through.”

How does it end, spoiler boy?
“What are you ladies up to?”

9 p.m. Sunday. HBO.
