Mississippi Grind director duo nabbed for CAPTAIN MARVEL!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Marvel has once again dipped into the indie world to pull talent for a big superhero blockbuster-in-the-making. Carol Danvers is one of the more exciting new superheroes debuting over the next few years. Brie Larson in the role is tip-top casting and now we know who will be shaping that performance.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck recently directed MISSISSIPPI GRIND, the gambler drama, with Ben Mendelsohn and Ryan Reynolds. They hit the scene with Half Nelson in the mid-aughts, which coincidentally co-starred Falcon himself, Mr. Anthony Mackie.

Their feature work up till now has had a bit of a biting dramatic edge to it. I wonder if they'll be bringing some of that feel to Captain Marvel.

Variety broke the story and says that Marvel met with a ton of potential directors, with an eye of getting a woman behind the camera, and that Boden and Fleck had the best take on the character. It's not surprising they were up for the gig. You may remember they were considered for Guardians of the Galaxy as well.

They're not high profile names, but I'm looking forward to seeing how they approach this movie. If Marvel gets Carol Danvers right they'll have another iconic female role model out there. After spending the last weekend surrounded by armies of little Reys running around me I really hope these folks nail it and we get a bunch of Little Miss Marvels that year.

What do you folks think of the news?
