Hey folks, Harry here... I've waxed on about my love of Frank Herbert's DUNE series, my love of Lynch's DUNE and my fevered fantasies about Jodorowsky's DUNE could've been... but now - we're engaged in a new era of DUNE-mania. Legendary's DUNE, which will mark Denis Villeneuve's third science fiction directorial production in a row. Coming off of the outstanding ARRIVAL, we get BLADE RUNNER 2049 soon enough - then... DUNE.
First, he needs a script - and for that, Variety says Eric Roth will write! Roth wrote FORREST GUMP for Robert Zemeckis, MUNICH for Steven Spielberg, THE HORSE WHISPERER for Robert Redford and THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTONS for David Fincher. That's a helluva credential list - and it isn't even complete. Personally, my fave Eric Roth penned film was a very early one for him, THE NICKEL RIDE for Robert Mulligan to direct. The film stars Jason Miller (THE EXORCIST) and is just a riveting crime tale that Tarantino showed at one of his QT fests and frankly I've never been able to shake. Highly recommended for you to check out!
In the release, it was also stated that Kevin J Anderson is a Creative Consultant on this DUNE project for Legendary - and that's some incredibly happy news for those of us that knows what that means! His STAR WARS spin off novels captured my imagination for that dark period of no new Star Wars we all suffered through after the release of RETURN OF THE JEDI.
